SymbiosisO is a collection of textile interfaces. The form, function and aesthetics are designed mimicking a biological element, a multi-layered structure of a living organism. The soft material behaves as an organic display - members of the collection react on definable impulses.
The fabrication process of SymbiosisO is based on both handicraft procedures and digital, specialized techniques. To activate the heat sensitive coating layer, the electronics is embedded into the soft structure. Felt is used as a substrate material due to its excellent properties. Voronoi tessellation algorithm is used for generating the geometry. The arrangement of cells intuitively suggests to fold the material into a three dimensional landscape.
The general concept in first place was a tribute to the ultimate power of evolution, where not only the human civilization impacts the environment, but nature itself reacts and adopts to these changes. Instead of criticizing the civilizations consequences on the environment, the possible arise of new types of mutant living beings can be explored.
